Why Seven Principles?

It is not by accident that there are seven COVENANT PRINCIPLEs. In the Bible seven is a COVENANT symbol that means fullness and completion and is used wherever COVENANTs are formed. Here are some examples:

At creation—“On the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day…So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work he had done in creation.” (Gn 2:2)

In the process of renewing the creation COVENANT with Noah: To Noah, God said, “Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals…” (Gn 7:2)

“After seven days the waters of the flood came upon the earth…” (Gn 7:10)

“…and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest…” (Gn 8:4)

“After a long wait, Noah sent out a dove every seven days to see if the waters had subsided from the earth.” (Gn 8:10-12)

“If Cain has avenged seven-fold, truly Lamech seventy-seven-fold.” (Gn 4:24).

In binding a COVENANT with Moses: “For seven days at the prescribed time in the month of Abib you are to eat unleavened bread…” (Ex 34:18)

“For six days you may work, but on the seventh you must rest…” (Ex 34:21)

“Then he sprinkled some of this oil seven times on the altar…” (Levi 8:10)

“At this order they proceeded, with the seven priests who carried the ram’s horns before the Lord blowing their horns, and the ark of the COVENANT of the Lord following them.” (Joshua 6:8).

In the New Testament: When Peter asks Jesus how often he must forgive those who wrong him, Jesus answers, “Not seven times; I say, seventy times seven times.” (Mat 18:22)”

John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne…” (Rv 1:4)

“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds seven stars in his right hand…” (Rv 2:1)

“Coming from the throne are flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and in front of the throne burn seven flaming torches, which are the seven spirits of God…” (Rv 4:5)

“One of the seven angels who held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues…” (Rv 21:9)
